Symptoms
The vehicle was purchased with a noticeable ticking noise from the engine and excessive oil consumption.
It was also stuck in limp mode and would not rev past approximately 2500 RPM. Despite these issues,
the engine ran smoothly and the car could still reach highway speeds, suggesting the problem was
isolated rather than a complete mechanical failure.
Diagnostics
A check-engine scan revealed a “fuel rail pressure low” code. The low-pressure fuel pump was tested
and confirmed to be operating within normal pressure range. A compression test was then performed,
and all cylinders showed normal readings. Since compression was healthy but oil consumption remained
high, this pointed toward worn valve stem seals as the most likely source of oil entering the
combustion chamber.
